Key Responsibilities

The Human Resources Business Partner will work closely with management to translate business requirements into practical people plans.

A major part of the position involves employee relations and HR compliance. The successful applicant will help ensure that company policies and South African labour legislation — including the BCEA, LRA and POPIA — are consistently applied.

The HR Business Partner will also assist with disciplinary, grievance and counselling matters while helping managers handle employee-relations issues fairly and constructively.

Recruitment and onboarding

The position includes working with the Talent Acquisition team to anticipate staffing requirements and support recruitment decisions.

The successful candidate will also help ensure new employees are effectively onboarded and integrated into Dis-Chem’s workplace culture.

Performance and employee development

Another important part of the position is supporting performance-management processes.

This includes helping with goal setting, performance reviews and improvement plans. The HR Business Partner will coach managers on performance conversations, employee development and retention while identifying high-potential employees who could form part of future succession plans.

Learning, culture and transformation

The successful candidate will work with Learning & Development to support relevant training for employees and managers.

The position also contributes to Dis-Chem’s transformation and Employment Equity initiatives, employee engagement programmes and company culture.

Workforce planning and HR administration

Responsibilities also extend to workforce planning, including monitoring headcount, scheduling and leave trends.

The HR Business Partner will help maintain accurate employee information relating to contracts, transfers and terminations.

People analytics will also be used to provide management with useful information regarding areas such as employee turnover, absenteeism and productivity.

Dis-Chem is looking for someone who understands both HR and the operational realities of retail.

Important competencies include relationship building, resilience, agility, self-management and the ability to execute effectively. Candidates should understand the HR lifecycle across employee relations, recruitment and talent, learning, compliance and people analytics.
